The RTE Concert Orchestra will perform at the magnificent setting of St. Canice's Cathedral, and the Luminosa Orchestra will join us for a brilliant performance at St. Canice's RC Church.

A major artistic collaboration takes centre stage this May as Patrick Rafter joins forces with Luminosa Orchestra for a night of brilliance, passion and electrifying virtuosity.

At the heart of the evening lies Antonio Vivaldi’s Four Seasons — one of the most iconic works ever written for violin. Bursting with colour, drama and breathtaking energy, these concertos remain as thrilling today as they were 300 years ago.


The fireworks continue with Camille Saint-Saëns’ Introduction et Rondo Capriccioso — a dazzling showpiece of flair, virtuosity and irresistible rhythmic fire.

Closing the concert is Edward Elgar’s Serenade for Strings, one of the most cherished works in the English repertoire — warm, noble and deeply lyrical.

An evening of sweeping passion, radiant lyricism and orchestral brilliance as Patrick Rafter takes to the podium to conduct and then direct from the violin. We are thrilled to the distinguished RTÉ Concert Orchestra coming to Kilkenny City for a celebration of the great Romantic tradition.


At the heart of the programme lies music from Manon Lescaut by Giacomo Puccini — music of sumptuous orchestration, soaring melodic lines and deeply human drama.

The luminous serenity of The Lark Ascending by Ralph Vaughan Williams offers a moment of transcendence — one of the most beloved works in the violin repertoire, floating with radiant calm above shimmering orchestral textures. Romantic elegance continues in Salut d'Amour and Sospiri by Edward Elgar, alongside the richly expressive Romance for Violin and Orchestra by Amy Beach.


The evening concludes in sparkling brilliance with the overture to The Barber of Seville by Rossini — one of the greatest ways to lift your spirits!

Claire O’Donnell is a highly sought after soloist and recording artist, performing regularly as principle harpist with the RTÉ National Symphony Orchestra, RTÉ Concert Orchestra, and the BBC Ulster Orchestra. She has recorded with The National Symphony Orchestra and as a soloist for the Irish Traditional Music archives. 31st December at 8pm ? Introducing Laura Aherne ☺️? Laura is a radiant young soprano rapidly emerging as one of Ireland’s most exciting operatic voices. A graduate of the Royal College of Music, London, where she studied with Janis Kelly and Bryan Evans as a Joseph Clover Scholar, she has already appeared with major companies including Irish National Opera and the Wexford Festival Opera. Recent performances include L’elisir d’amore and The Flying Dutchman with INO, as well as a notable appearance with Irish Heritage UK, singing Messiah excerpts in Handel’s own parish church. In 2024, Laura made a critically acclaimed house debut at the National Opera House as Nedda in Pagliacci, performed Adina and Giannetta in Donizetti’s Elixir of Love, and was honoured with the Danone Young Outstanding Female Artist Award, praised as “a voice to watch over the coming years.” Further highlights include the Canto al Serchio Award at the Birr Festival of Music, a featured recital at the Blackwater Valley Opera Festival, and roles in the world premieres of Jasmine Morris’ Church on the Blood and Connie Harris’ The Drifterman. Laura made her professional debut with Opera Collective Ireland and has since performed widely across baroque, classical, and contemporary repertoire, including productions with the Akademie für Alte Musik Berlin and Tony Award–winning director Patrick Mason. Upcoming engagements include returning to the Wexford Factory to sing Corinna and Delia in Rossini’s Il viaggio a Reims and Tytania in A Little Midsummer Night’s Dream. Introducing pianist Dida Condria ?☺️ Sunday 21st December at 3.30 pm in St Canices Church Kilkenny - she will be performing this amongst other works. Read more below. Romanian–Irish pianist Dida Condria, 22, has appeared in leading venues including Carnegie Hall, Wigmore Hall, Perth Concert Hall, the Brașov Filarmonic, and Ireland’s National Concert Hall.
