Founded in 2023, Marble City Music Festival has rapidly grown into an exciting addition to Ireland's cultural calendar, welcoming internationally acclaimed musicians, leading orchestras and enthusiastic audiences to the historic city of Kilkenny.

Taking place each May and December, the festival brings together some of the finest artists from Ireland and abroad for a vibrant celebration of orchestral music, chamber music and exceptional solo performances.

From its sold-out inaugural festival to increasingly ambitious orchestral concerts and packed concert halls, Marble City Music Festival continues to go from strength to strength.

Since its foundation, the festival has had the privilege of welcoming a distinguished array of musicians, including internationally celebrated pianist Barry Douglas, acclaimed French clarinettist Michel Lethiec, and outstanding Irish artists Fiachra Garvey, Michael McHale, Ailbhe McDonagh and Claudia Boyle, alongside many other exceptional performers.

The festival has proudly presented leading ensembles including the RTÉ Concert Orchestra, Luminosa Orchestra, Camerata Rosa Musica and ConTempo Quartet, bringing performances of remarkable quality and musical diversity to Kilkenny.

With enthusiastic audiences, sold-out concerts and memorable performances across its May and December seasons, the festival has quickly established a growing reputation for artistic excellence, warmth and ambition.


An Exciting Future

Building on the success of its opening seasons, Marble City Music Festival looks forward to an exciting new chapter.

With plans for future collaborations involving the Ulster Orchestra, further performances with the RTÉ Concert Orchestra, prospective appearances by the internationally renowned Menuhin Soloists, and a growing roster of distinguished national and international guest artists, the festival's artistic ambitions continue to expand.

Our vision is to establish Kilkenny as an increasingly important destination for outstanding classical music, bringing musicians of international distinction to the heart of the Marble City and creating extraordinary experiences for audiences from across Ireland and beyond.

Marble City Music Festival was founded by Kilkenny-born international violinist and conductor Patrick Rafter, who established the festival with a simple ambition: to bring some of the world's finest musicians to the city where his own musical journey began.

Drawing upon his international performing career and artistic collaborations, Patrick continues to develop the festival as a meeting place for exceptional musicians, inspiring performances and audiences united by a love of live music.

31st December at 8pm ? Introducing Laura Aherne ☺️? Laura is a radiant young soprano rapidly emerging as one of Ireland’s most exciting operatic voices. A graduate of the Royal College of Music, London, where she studied with Janis Kelly and Bryan Evans as a Joseph Clover Scholar, she has already appeared with major companies including Irish National Opera and the Wexford Festival Opera. Recent performances include L’elisir d’amore and The Flying Dutchman with INO, as well as a notable appearance with Irish Heritage UK, singing Messiah excerpts in Handel’s own parish church. In 2024, Laura made a critically acclaimed house debut at the National Opera House as Nedda in Pagliacci, performed Adina and Giannetta in Donizetti’s Elixir of Love, and was honoured with the Danone Young Outstanding Female Artist Award, praised as “a voice to watch over the coming years.” Further highlights include the Canto al Serchio Award at the Birr Festival of Music, a featured recital at the Blackwater Valley Opera Festival, and roles in the world premieres of Jasmine Morris’ Church on the Blood and Connie Harris’ The Drifterman. Laura made her professional debut with Opera Collective Ireland and has since performed widely across baroque, classical, and contemporary repertoire, including productions with the Akademie für Alte Musik Berlin and Tony Award–winning director Patrick Mason. Upcoming engagements include returning to the Wexford Factory to sing Corinna and Delia in Rossini’s Il viaggio a Reims and Tytania in A Little Midsummer Night’s Dream. Introducing pianist Dida Condria ?☺️ Sunday 21st December at 3.30 pm in St Canices Church Kilkenny - she will be performing this amongst other works. Read more below. Romanian–Irish pianist Dida Condria, 22, has appeared in leading venues including Carnegie Hall, Wigmore Hall, Perth Concert Hall, the Brașov Filarmonic, and Ireland’s National Concert Hall. She is completing her MPerf at the Royal College of Music under Prof. Vanessa Latarche, supported by the RCM C.H. Scholarship, Irish Heritage, Drake Calleja Trust, and the Countess of Munster Trust. A first-class graduate of the Royal Conservatoire of Scotland and former ABRSM Scholar, she previously studied at the Royal Irish Academy of Music from the age of six. A BBC Young Musician Keyboard Finalist and winner of the BBC Walter Todds Bursary, Dida is a laureate of major international competitions, recently receiving the 2025 McCullough Bursary, Irish Heritage Music Bursary, and Charles Brennan Prize. She has performed across Europe and the US, collaborated with orchestras in the UK and Ireland, and earned praise for her compelling interpretations of 20th-century and contemporary repertoire. Romanian–Irish pianist Dida Condria, 22, has appeared in leading venues including Carnegie Hall, Wigmore Hall, Perth Concert Hall, the Brașov Filarmonic, and Ireland’s National Concert Hall. She is completing her MPerf at the Royal College of Music under Prof. Vanessa Latarche, supported by the RCM C.H. Scholarship, Irish Heritage, Drake Calleja Trust, and the Countess of Munster Trust. A first-class graduate of the Royal Conservatoire of Scotland and former ABRSM Scholar, she previously studied at the Royal Irish Academy of Music from the age of six. A BBC Young Musician Keyboard Finalist and winner of the BBC Walter Todds Bursary, Dida is a laureate of major international competitions, recently receiving the 2025 McCullough Bursary, Irish Heritage Music Bursary, and Charles Brennan Prize. She has performed across Europe and the US, collaborated with orchestras in the UK and Ireland, and earned praise for her compelling interpretations of 20th-century and contemporary repertoire. Fiachra has also been a prizewinner at AXA Dublin International Piano Competition (Brennan Prize and McCullough Bursary), EU Piano Competition Prague (concerto finalist), 3rd Soirees-Concours Internationales de Piano a Collioure, France (Audience award) and Feis Ceoil Dublin (Morris Grant Bursary and Mabel Swainson award). The National Concert Hall Dublin awarded Fiachra the “Rising Star” prize in 2011 which led to a number of solo and concerto debuts. Fiachra graduated from the Royal Academy of Music, London in 2013 with 1st class honours and distinction in the M.A. in Music Performance.
